Rolling Status – Reduces Facebook StressMore DIY How To Projects

I love Facebook and how it has become such an important part of our lives in the 21st century. I noticed as most people would have , patterns in Facebook. The most common among these patterns come from Status Messages. Each an every one of us has at least one friend who status updates 24/7 or this person falls under a certain pattern that has become Facebook stereo types on the internet. I felt since they are being judged based on the status they must have stress. To deal with the stress I created a tutorial to make RollingStatus Check out the instruct able if you or someone you know goes through Status Stress.

Final project : Be aromatic~!!

Joon Young Koh

You might have experienced having foot odors, especially during the winter when you have to wear long boots or ugg boots. When that happens, it can be absolutely embarrassing when we need to take off our shoes. Furthermore, it can be pretty hard to remove foot odor in the soul of the shoes, especially for boots.  We can not always wash the whole boots that easily.

This is special shoe rack that removes foot odor in your shoes! It is easy and convenient!

ReDe-Sign – Making Signs Better

Charis Poon

REDE-SIGN

I redrew a number of store signs on 6th Avenue along my walk from home (37th Street) to school (13th Street). On this website, I have posted each store sign as seen on Google Streetview along with my redesigned store sign. There are also two videos, one of my walk as seen normally and another of my walk with my “new” signs placed in it. You can also see a Google Map of my walk.

Repurposing Internet Icons to address social issues

Alex Castro

My goal with this project aims to respond to the question. How can I leverage on the instant recognition of  popular internet icons to address local issues, such as littering?

I chose Washington Heights, because I walk these streets everyday and feel very dissapointed when I see people littering all over.

Having conversations with locals about the littering issue in their community. Most of them agree, even though it is a small-scale problem, it needs attention.

This was in Washington Heights, NYC. Dec. 8.

I printed copies  34″x6″ of the popular internet icon, “Don’t like this”.

Locals were engaged in the experiment by pressing this button. The button displays that up to this point, five people had participated

GODARD GLASSES!

Ashley Ahn

Unrelated to my thesis project, I decided to make big glasses that have detachable frames which display the word ‘FIN’. I wanted to create something that was simple, impractical, and fun to make while addressing Godard’s ridiculous use of subtitles, especially the announcement of the end of his films.

Final Project: Video Playing Plush Bear

Alexandra Joe

For my final, I decided to create a plush bear prototype that belongs to one of the characters in my thesis’ narrative. My thesis project explores the nature of associating memories or experiences with inanimate objects and how we form greater connections with them.

The bear in pieces.

I used Arduino and MAX/MSP in order to create a simple video player. Using Arduino2Max, I was able to get the Arduino board to communicate with MAX/MSP by generating a range of numbers (using a flex sensor and a force sensor) that could then be manipulated.

Final Project: Zoetrope Trailer Player, Story of A Butterfly

Sena Hong

zoetrope trailer player from Sena Hong on Vimeo.

For my final project, I wanted to make a trailer for my thesis project, a short animation about N. Korean suffering from lack of human right. A butterfly in this animation is the representation/metaphor of the someone in N.Korea not being about to tell their story by showing how they are not able to speak about their lives because they don’t have the freedom to do so.  The story of this animation will be told on a website that the zoetrope tells you to go to so you can watch the animation.

Final Project – Cave Projection

li

My final project is incorporated with my thesis project.

For my thesis, I’m going to create a 2D animation about the Dunhuang Mogao Caves in China to educate Chinese students about their cultural heritage.

For this project, I’m thinking about how to present my thesis project and show my animation. There is a possibility that my animation is shown in the gallery or museum. My goal is to how to make history relevant in the present. How can I create this physical experience to show my animation. Therefore, I wanted to use projection on a rock-like surface. I made a paper mache rock with screen wire and wrapping paper but it looked small and I couldn’t get anything bigger.

I came up with a idea. I made a half of my bedroom a cave. This is a lot easier to create an experience and make something big. I used 48″*10 yards regular brown wrapping paper, brown tapes, projector, mini DV camcorder, tripod to make this project. Actually. it looked very good though I spent a lot of time with the color, brightness of the projection, figuring out how to make projection work and keeping the paper falling but it’s fun thanks to my tiny bedroom. I finally cleaned up my messy cave bedroom but I quite enjoyed staying in the cave that night and it seemed that those ancient artists lived in the caves.
